Are you considering studying for an MBA but have heard that, for some reason, it’s not for you? Are you sure about that? There are plenty of misconceptions surrounding MBA programs — widely spread, but far from true. We’ve selected the most common ones for you.
1. It’s too late for me – I’m too old to study.
Reality: It’s never too late to study!
Who says MBA programs are only for the young? Productive working life keeps getting longer, and with it, so does the threshold for professional maturity. Many people in their fifties are not thinking about retirement but about advancing their careers. MBA studies are truly suitable for everyone.
It’s true that absorbing theoretical knowledge becomes harder with age, but logical thinking and practical reasoning grow stronger. Give your brain regular training — it’ll boost not only your knowledge but also your confidence. Sure, stepping out of your comfort zone at 50 takes more determination than at 30, but the reward is worth it. You’ll broaden your horizons, gain insight into new trends, and acquire know-how that benefits both your profession and business.
To give you some perspective: at the CEMI institute, 56% of students are aged 41–60, 32% are between 31–40, and our oldest graduate was 81! Proof that learning truly has no age limit.
2. An MBA is only useful for managers.
Reality: An MBA pays off for anyone who needs leadership or management skills.
While the MBA is indeed designed for managerial roles, it’s not just for corporate executives. It’s also ideal for owners of small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs, or even municipal mayors — all of whom need solid management knowledge.
The MBA is also a great stepping stone for those aspiring to managerial positions. It provides a competitive advantage on the job market and opens the door to career growth and leadership opportunities.
3. I can’t study for an MBA because I don’t have a university degree.
Reality: You don’t need a university degree to enroll in an MBA program.
While many MBA students are university graduates, a degree is not a requirement. The main prerequisites are a completed secondary education (high school diploma) and relevant professional experience.
The MBA doesn’t aim to replace university studies – it’s a form of career education, focused on real-world practice rather than academic theory. At CEMI, for example, 73% of students have a university degree and 27% have completed secondary school.
4. Why study when I can just learn from experience?
Reality: MBA studies let you solve your real-life business challenges directly.
Practical experience is invaluable – but it often comes with the costly “trial and error” method. A solid grounding in management helps you avoid these mistakes. MBA programs give you the tools and frameworks to manage efficiently without losing time, money, or talented employees.
At CEMI, the MBA curriculum is designed to be highly practical. Students work on real issues from their jobs, identifying areas for improvement through assignments and a final thesis. It’s not about memorizing theory – it’s about case studies, critical discussions, and applying solutions directly to your work. And best of all, you don’t have to physically attend classes – the entire program is 100% online.
5. The program is in a different language, and I’m not fluent enough.
Reality: Most programs are taught in Czech and also in English.
At CEMI, all MBA programs are taught in Czech, except for two international ones:
- Global Business Leadership, focused on international business, taught by experts from countries such as the USA, France, Italy, Brazil, Spain, and Ireland.
- Marketing Management and International Business, also led by foreign lecturers, helping students develop global marketing and trade expertise.
So, unless you specifically choose an international program, you can comfortably study in Czech.
6. I’m too busy and don’t have time to commute to classes.
Reality: The entire MBA program is fully online.
Most of our students are busy professionals — managers, entrepreneurs, parents — who value flexibility. That’s why the MBA at CEMI is designed to fit your schedule.
You can study anytime and anywhere: from your office, living room, or even a beach halfway across the world. All study materials, assignments, and communication with lecturers and peers take place in our e-learning system. Lecturers are available via email or video call, and the only optional in-person event is the introductory session.
7. I can’t afford it.
Reality: Tuition can be split into affordable monthly installments.
Tuition fees for an MBA are a significant investment – but you don’t have to pay all at once. You can spread the cost into 12 monthly payments, making it manageable for most students.
Many employers also contribute to tuition costs for their staff, so it’s worth asking your company about this option.
Most importantly, view the tuition as an investment in your future. With the knowledge and opportunities gained through your MBA, you can potentially earn millions of crowns more over your professional lifetime – a return that speaks for itself.
